There was to be no Stratford shock as the well-regarded Jenkins registered a first success over fences, jumping excellently in his defeat of sole rival Sussex Road at prohibitive odds of 1-25.

The Harry Fry-trained Bags Groove was 5-6 favourite before being declared a non-runner half an hour before the race, leaving the Nicky Henderson-trained six-year-old to take on the Aytach Sadik-trained Sussex Road, who was massively inferior on the pair's hurdles ratings.

A Grade 3 handicap winner at Ascot over hurdles in January, Jenkins registered an easy four-and-a-half-length success.
