Kalashnikov hits target to set up Cheltenham date

Trainer Amy Murphy and her father Paul look to have a fine prospect on their hands in Kalashnikov who made it three wins from three starts in the 2m½f novice hurdle.

A big, strapping son of Kalanisi, he had previously won a bumper and a novice hurdle but this was his best form yet. They didn't go a strong gallop and he took quite a grip but he and the previously unbeaten Irish Prophecy quickened away from the field after the third last, and he then proved far too strong for his rival as he galloped on relentlessly to win by ten lengths.

Jockey Jack Quinlan's only worry came on the going to the fourth last when the keen-going The Linksman ran out to his left. Quinlan had been on his inside but was able to take evasive action in time.
