Chase course still in need of a downpour or two before racing returns

Leicester’s parched chase track still needs as much as 35mm of rain before being fit to stage racing, clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson revealed on Thursday, with next week’s fixture already switched to an all-hurdle affair.

While the majority of tracks are racing with soft in their going description, Leicester’s chase track remains hard, firm in places as any downpours continue to evade the East Midlands.

“I think we need another 25-35mm and it wasn’t worth dragging it on,” said Stevenson on the early decision to switch next Wednesday’s fixture to an all-hurdle card.
