Magical, indeed. Early-afternoon showers may have slightly dampened the fervour of Caribbean Carnival day but they did the trick for Ruth Carr.

Magical Effect, who had not quite lived up to the hopes the trainer held for him in 2017, showed he may have turned the corner with a ready two-length win in the 6f handicap.

"He's been running consistently all year but for some reason things just haven't come together," said Carr, who bought the sprinter for £10,000 from Godolphin in late 2015.
