Cannon fires treble with his first victory over Grand National fences

Jockey Tom Cannon had a memorable afternoon with a treble, capped by his first victory over the Grand National fences but soured by a likely whip ban.

He rode winners on Edwardstone and Midnights' Gift for his boss Alan King and later made the most of a spare ride on Hogan's Height to land the Virgin Bet Grand Sefton Handicap Chase.

"It's been a good day," said Cannon, 28. "It makes up for the bad ones. I've probably not had many better ones."
