Another prospective star emerged from the Mark Johnston yard on Wednesday as three-year-old Streak Lightning made a bright start to his career by winning the second division of the 1m½f maiden at Wolverhampton.

Unraced at two, the Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds-owned son of Night Of Thunder was sent to the head of affairs by PJ McDonald and quickened effortlessly clear in the home straight to win by four and a half lengths.

The rider was impressed and said: "It felt like there's plenty of improvement and he's a nice horse going forward. I think he could step up but he doesn't lack speed so I don't think there's any need to go tampering with anything yet.
