Bowen opens account for Henderson as Diese powers home

Rising star James Bowen rode his first winner for new boss Nicky Henderson after Diese Des Bieffes scooted home in the novice hurdle for conditional jockeys.

On only his third ride for the champion trainer since joining Seven Barrows at the start of last month, the 16-year-old made the most of a 13lb pull in the weights – taking his claim into account – with Highway One O One to get the better of the odds-on favourite by four lengths.

"It's great to get that first one for the guv'nor and hopefully we can have a few more this season," said Bowen. "We had a lot of weight from the other horse but he's done it well and seems like a nice horse."
