There was another exhibition of raw speed on the Knavesmire yesterday as Blue Point scorched to victory down the same straight Mecca’s Angel had lit up the previous day with her scintillating Nunthorpe success.

The speed Blue Point had been showing trainer Charlie Appleby at home was the dominating influence when it came to deciding whether to stick to six furlongs or step up to seven, as had initially been planned after the juvenile was beaten by the gutsy and more streetwise Mehmas in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood last time.

And it proved the right call as Blue Point travelled all over his rivals before settling the race with a killer turn of foot in the closing stages when asked by rider William Buick.
