There was some high-class form from the USA, South Africa and France in the Betfred Middleton Stakes, but the race instead paid a compliment to Turkey.

The success of 11-1 outsider Blond Me, handed a timely confidence boost to jockey Oisin Murphy, who went on to secure a 131-1 double.

A Group 2 contest that lost one star attraction in So Mi Dar due to the ground, still played host to a Breeders’ Cup champion in Queen’s Trust, imported South African headline maker Smart Call and The Black Princess, most recently victorious at Chantilly.
