After his Classic aspirations were ended last autumn by Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite Churchill, Blue Point staked his claim for major sprint honours instead when lowering the six-furlong track record.

Back in distance from last year's Dewhurst Stakes, in which he was third, Blue Point swept to the front approaching the furlong pole and kept on strongly to score in a time of 1:11.05s that was 0.45s inside the previous best set by Mince in 2012.

In winning by a length and a half from Harry Angel, who was conceding 4lb to the winner, Blue Point was cut to 4-1 (from 6) by Coral and Ladbrokes and to 7-2 favourite (from 6) by Paddy Power for the Commonwealth Cup.
