Wholestone might not be right at the peak of the staying hurdle division but he is the best of the British.

That was the opinion of trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies after his ultra-reliable performer romped to a comeback victory in the 2m4f Class 2 hurdle.

The evidence of last season, when Wholestone was the first British hope home in the Grade 1 staying hurdle contests at Cheltenham and Aintree, certainly backs up that view, and so did his dismissal of Vision Des Flos and Unowhatimeanharry in Saturday's £45,000 contest.
