The Galmoy Hurdle may not have delivered the match-up between Apple's Jade and Benie Des Dieux it promised, but the winner proved to be something out of the ordinary and would have been hard to beat in any case.

In accounting for her stablemates Penhill and Killultagh Vic, Benie Des Dieux earned high praise from Willie Mullins, who suggested she might be the best mare he’s trained.

Lofty praise from the man who managed the careers of Annie Power and Quevega, while it didn’t go unnoticed that the man on Benie Des Dieux, Paul Townend, normally a cool character, couldn’t contain his delight in the performance.
