Not much could be seen of the 3m6½f Devon National from the stands with Haldon Hill shrouded in fog, but the result was the same as 12 months ago as Dawson City landed the feature contest for the second consecutive year.

Having been a 14-1 chance in the morning, the ten-year-old was well supported to 6-1 on course, and his supporters were all smiles as he jumped to the front three fences from home and galloped six lengths clear of Dancing Shadow, with Tom Bellamy in the saddle.

Winning trainer Polly Gundry said: “We laid him out for this prize since he won it last year. It's just the ticket for him with the big galloping track, which clearly suits him so well.
