A true Cotswold triumph at Cheltenham with Splash Of Ginge sparking an eruption of elation and emotion in the winner's enclosure after taking the BetVictor Gold Cup under Tom Bellamy for Nigel Twiston-Davies and the irrepressible John Neild.

It might be stretching it to describe Liverpudlian Neild as a local but he was long ago given the freedom of the City of Guiting Power and is a jumps man down to his last Scouse corpuscle.

After Splash Of Ginge won the Betfair Hurdle in February 2014 under Ryan Hatch the celebrations passed into local folklore. Neild and his Mersey army of occupation descended on the Hollow Bottom and did not leave until the following Tuesday. Late the following day they were still going round bayoneting the wounded.
