Joint-trainer Roger Charlton is not getting carried away but Batal Dubai looks a juvenile destined for better things judged on his debut win.

The son of Profitable overcame greenness and produced a blistering turn of foot to pull clear of his seven rivals in the 6f novice contest.

Batal Dubai was backed into 7-1 (from 10s) and Charlton said: "We were quite hopeful today, he’s always been a nice horse. I don't have any big races in mind for him yet although he’ll be sticking to six furlongs as that looks to be his trip.

"It will be another novice event for him next and we’ll take it from there.

"There was not much form on display and it might just be this was a rotten race, so we’ll have to see how things turn out with him.”

Howarth strikes again

Young rider Christian Howarth continues to impress, producing a tidy effort to deliver Lilikoi to land the 1m apprentice handicap.

Howarth, 20, was recording his 20th success of the year and Lilikoi's joint-trainer Nic Barron said: "I think this is only the second ride Christian has had for us and he did a top job.

“This trip is ideal for the filly. She is usually a bit free-going but she was much more settled this time.”

Another young jockey on a roll is Mark Winn, who made it three wins from his last four rides with a well-judged effort from the front on Muscika in the 6f handicap.
