Bargain buy Trinity Lake proves money well spent for Declan Carroll

Declan Carroll struck gold with a Juddmonte cast-off last year and history could well repeat itself after bargain-buy Trinity Lake won on debut.

Sold unraced by Juddmonte for 7,500gns, Trinity Lake is a full-brother to Titus, who enjoyed a productive last season for Carroll before moving to Australia to continue his career.

After three-year-old Trinity Lake made a perfect start in division two of the 7f novice stakes, Carroll said: "He's from a good family and is a really nice horse in the making. His brother Titus did well for us last year, winning a valuable handicap at the Ebor meeting, and we sold him for big money to Australia, where they're hoping he could be one for the Melbourne Cup."
