Ballard Down successfully completed phase one of owners Ian and Amanda Heseltine's midweek all-weather jaunt when maintaining trainer William Knight's excellent form in the 1m½f handicap.

The four-year-old son of Canford Cliffs finished strongly under Harry Bentley to the delight of the Poole-based couple, who form part of Angmering Park Thoroughbreds I and are heading on to Lingfield on Thursday to watch a second of their three horses in action.

"We've had a long journey from Dorset and we're going straight onto Lingfield to see Author's Dream tomorrow," said Ian Heseltine. "He's likely to be favourite after finishing second here following an eight-month layoff last time, so hopefully he can complete the double."
