The success of Sheikha Reika in the 7f maiden fillies' stakes was extra-important for trainer Roger Varian as the winner is named after his youngest daughter.

Successful owner Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum obviously thought a lot of Sheikha Reika last year to bestow the name of the now one-year-old on the Shamardal filly, but things did not go immediately to plan.

The youngest of Varian's children, Reika was on hand to welcome the filly back but was happy to doze through much of the race.
