With his sights set firmly on the Connolly’s Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket and then a shot at the Breeders’ Cup, Wesley Ward borrowed the theme song to American racing’s seasonal climax when promising that, for Lady Aurelia, the best is yet to come.

Yesterday's winning distance was severely reduced from her seven- length Ascot procession, with Alrahma and Peace Envoy chasing her home, while Tis Marvellous failed to fire for Adam Kirby and Clive Cox.

Winning jockey Frankie Dettori pointed to a series of momentum-ending stumbles on a track which was perhaps beginning to show signs of wear and tear.
