'Are we going to get there?' - Broken Quest beats the traffic to win again
Wednesday: Ludlow
The traffic encountered on their journey to the track was rendered unimportant for the David Dennis yard after Broken Quest continued his love affair with Ludlow in the 3m handicap chase.
There had been some doubt in the mind of winning trainer Dennis
having got stuck in traffic on the way in, and with a runner in the first at 1pm, he wondered if he would get the chance to send his runners out.
"We had a runner in the first and we were sat in traffic at 11am, and I did think, are we going to get there in time?!" he said.
Thankfully the fraught journey didn't bother Broken Quest. The ten-year-old, benefiting from a front-running ride by Jack Andrews, remains unbeaten at the Shropshire track having now won three times for three different trainers over three different trips on a variety of ground.
Dennis said: "He's been a very consistent horse throughout his career and we're really pleased with him. He's got a good cruise speed, he kept going and it's a nice win – a nice prize too."
Broken Quest has a tendency to jump left and yet has done all of his winning on right-handed tracks, something that has bemused Dennis.
"It's a bit bizarre really," he said. "If you school him at home he definitely favours jumping left, but he's never won left-handed, it's a bit of a strange one."
Local winner
Henry Daly trains a stone's throw from the track, so it was a good day out for all involved as Lily Glitters, owned by The Henry Daly Racing Club, took the 3m mares' handicap hurdle under Tom O'Brien.
