Andrew Mullen in two photo-finish dramas - but with a clear winner each time

The Southwell judges would have been hoping for a quiet afternoon following the drama at Cheltenham the previous day, but there was no such luck on an eventful card featuring a stewards’ inquiry and two photo-finishes.

Thankfully, the bright sunshine meant two clear winners were able to emerge after tight finishes to the opening couple of races, firstly when the Tony Carroll-trained Fortultous was driven out by David Probert to get the better of Grimsthorpe Castle after a terrific battle.

Andrew Mullen was the unfortunate jockey on that occasion, but his fortunes were reversed in the 7f handicap when Equidae, trained by Iain Jardine, pipped Young John on the line.
