If Richard Johnson needed any sharpening of his desire to be champion jockey again, Harry Skelton has provided it.

Skelton’s golden summer put him well clear, but 13 winners for Johnson in the last 12 days have whittled that lead down to 11.

“That’s 71 winners now,” said Johnson after leading throughout to land the mares’ handicap hurdle on the Tom Lacey-trained Vivant. “We’re trying to get back near Harry Skelton.
