Alan King rarely wastes a bullet in the Ballymore Winter Novices' Hurdle and Alsa Mix hit the target to provide the trainer with his fifth winner of the Grade 2 contest.

King, whose previous victories came via Junior, Manyriverstocross, Label Des Obeaux and Messire Des Obeaux, stayed at home, as did winning owner June Watts.

Her husband Tim, himself battling an ailment, was on duty and explained her enforced absence.
