There was a distinct theme running through the final day of the Southwell season as it was the old boys who took centre stage, but it will be the end of August before the Fibresand favourites can return.

Alpha Tauri will miss the track more than most, as he now has 11 wins at the track to match his 11 years, and in winning renewed a very old acquaintance with his rider Lewis Edmunds.

Winning trainer Charles Smith revealed: "Lewis rode this old horse when he was a 14-year-old schoolboy. He got run away with and they went eight miles!
