Kovera landed his first win under rules when turning in an exhibition round of jumping to leave favourite The Ogle Gogle Man in the shade in the 3m 2½f novice handicap chase.

The 9-4 chance did not see another rival under Alan Johns, who made the most of the fact that the former winning point-to-pointer had just 10st 1lb to carry.

Kovera had previously finished a decent second at Southwell and connections may well want to run him again soon given that he stretched away from the last to win by 18 lengths.
