Potterman stamped himself a potentially decent recruit to fences over the summer months, putting plenty of daylight between himself and his rivals when posting a comfortable success in the feature 2m4f novice chase.

Alan King’s charge was backed from a morning price of 4-1 down to 11-10 favourite on course and never gave his supporters any anxious moments as he lengthened nicely under Wayne Hutchinson after the final fence to see off Notwhatiam by ten lengths.

The trainer said: “He is essentially a good-ground horse so he'll keep going as the only times he has disappointed me is when we have tried him on soft conditions – even good to soft is too much for him. So this summer will be all about educating him before he takes a winter break and returns next spring.”
