It is assumed Flat horses do not resonate quite as much as their jumps counterparts because they often lack longevity but many of the sprinters in the Stewards' Cup feel like familiar friends and that is certainly true of back-to-back winner Commanche Falls.

Owned by friends Doug Graham, Ian Davison and Alan Drysdale, last year's hero was missed in the market and sent off at 25-1 before becoming the first dual winner of the race since Sky Diver in 1968.

The sport's richest handicap has always been fiendishly difficult to solve, defying all trends and frequently leaving punters scratching their heads, but the answer was there all along, hiding in plain sight – we often all have a habit of unnecessarily overcomplicating things.
