'A chaser in the making' - Roger Teal excited for the future with Kamaxos
Tuesday: Market Rasen
Roger Teal is relishing sending Kamaxos over fences following his first career victory when a wide-margin winner of the 2m4½f maiden hurdle.
The five-year-old was making his seventh appearance for the Lambourn handler after moving to Windsor House Stables from Henri-Alex Pantall in France a year ago and duly delivered with an 18-length success under James Davies.
Having finished second on three occasions this season, Teal admitted victory this time round was much needed for the five-year-old.
"It was the confidence booster he needed because he had been running so well in defeat and has run with credit every time," said the trainer.
"He was a little gassy last time out because he came back after a break and was probably too fresh at Sandown. He cooked his own goose because he wouldn’t settle.
"I was tempted to drop him back a little bit because of how he has been running, but two-and-a-half is the ideal trip at the moment."
When asked about Kamaxos’ future, Teal added: "He is still quite young, he is a big-framed unit and a chaser in the making. He will probably be seen to a better effect over a fence than hurdles.
"He is a big, solid boy, is still maturing and I think his future lies over a fence."
One True King holds on
One True King held off a late challenge from Royal Pretender to win by a nose in the feature 2m7f handicap hurdle for Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies.
The seven-year-old, who was making a return to hurdles, provided the trainer with a fourth winner from his last seven runners and reached 60 victories for the campaign.
