Bargain buy Majalaat cost just £2,000 for stud owner Brad Wood but claimed victory in the 1m2f handicap to give Paul Collins' five-horse yard a first win in two years.

Majalaat was bought in the Goffs Autumn Sale by Wood and has since found his stride at Collins' small North Yorkshire operation.

"Brad has a good eye for a bargain," Collins said. “He picked this one up and they’ve done a fantastic job with him.

“With the numbers we have we don’t put any pressure on ourselves. We have only two horses in training sometimes so we can't expect to have winners every day. We do our best with them and when they win it's down to the horses.”

The five-year-old made easy work of his rivals under apprentice Oliver Stammers, who claimed a second win on the card with King Frankel.

Collins added: “Majalaat is a real gentleman and he’s got plenty of guts. I knew if he got an easy lead he’d enjoy himself out front and take a bit of catching.

“He’s not the type of horse that we want to overdo. One of his owners is a physiotherapist and they’re very good to him. He gets a massage more often than David Beckham!”

Castamere revitalised

Rains of Castamere landed his third successive Flat win after picking up the mile handicap for owner and trainer Mick Channon.

The four-year-old ran poorly in a maiden over hurdles in January before returning to the Flat with relish under Silvestre De Sousa.
