Rednapp nips to the front after first weekend of action thanks to Nube Negra
There is plenty to be said for getting a fast start in the Tote Ten To Follow and the honour of topping the leaderboard after the first weekend of skirmishes goes to team Rednapp with 118.07 points.
Clearly, this was a plan that came off, as seven of Rednapp’s squad put points on the board and it could have been nine from ten if matters had fallen right for Echoes In Rain in the Morgiana Hurdle and if Bob Olinger had not been denied a run by a bruise.
Nube Negra was the chief contributor to Rednapp’s total, picking up 23.25 points for victory in the Shloer Chase. Trainer Dan Skelton will give the winner an entry in Sandown’s Tingle Creek Chase next month, a Ten To Follow bonus race in which he could face the unbeaten Shishkin, mainstay of many Ten To Follow squads.
A glance at the top ten on the leaderboard shows Rednapp was not the only contender aiming to be quickly out of the traps as Trish’s Fast Starters occupies fourth spot on 107.22 points and Flying Start is in sixth with 97.97.
Trish’s Fast Starters managed to bag 26.90 points in the Morgiana with Sharjah, while Flying Start’s team included the top scorer so far, Midnight Shadow, who contributed 28.30 points for victory in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. Trainer Sue Smith has the King George VI Chase, a bonus race, as a target.
Some 22 horses got on the board in the game’s first two days, with Vanillier (22.50), I Like To Move It (21.67) and Third Time Lucki (21.40) most notable.
