Classic-winning owner Phil Cunningham has expanded his Newmarket operation to nearby Six Mile Bottom after completing the purchase of the 45-acre Swynford Paddocks Stud.

Best known for owning dual 2,000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel, Cunningham runs his team under the name of Rebel Racing and has not long finished the £1 million refurbishment of his Albert House Stables, where Richard Spencer recently took over the reins as trainer from Dave Morris.

The 23-box Albert House, from where Spencer has sent out two winners to date, is well positioned near the foot of Warren Hill but is surrounded by other properties and offers no opportunity for expansion. Cunningham has moved to counter this by purchasing Swynford Paddocks Stud to act as a spelling facility, as well as a breeding operation, only a few miles down the road.
