A landmark report on immigration published this week has given racing's leaders encouragement the sport will be able to recruit from abroad after Brexit to help combat the shortage of stable staff.

The migration advisory committee (MAC) published its recommendations on Tuesday having been commissioned by the government to provide evidence for the design of a new immigration system, although it has been blasted in some quarters for being elitist after a minimum salary threshold of £30,000 was recommended.

The BHA, National Trainers Federation and Thoroughbred Breeders' Association had told the MAC investigation there is concern that the UK's decision to leave the European Union "will exacerbate the current staffing crisis", with a shortfall in workers estimated between 500 and 1,000 people.
