Racing makes offer as deadline for levy looms

Racing's representatives have told the Levy Board they are willing to accept a cut in the rate for the statutory levy to ten per cent as the October 31 deadline for a deal to be agreed draws closer.

Although the government remains committed to replacing the levy system next year, there is still a statutory requirement for a levy scheme to be in place from April 1 as the new legislation is not in place.

The Levy Board is set to meet on Thursday to discuss the latest situation and any recommendations made by the bookmakers' committee for the 56th scheme.
