Nicky Henderson has told the Racing Post that Constitution Hill will be aimed at a Group 2 in Italy for his next start towards the end of October. Here is everything you need to know about that contest.

The race

The Group 2 Gran Premio del Jockey Club – S.I.R.E. Trofeo Pio Bruni, which is run at the San Siro in Milan on Sunday, October 25.

Confirmations for the 1m4f contest remain open until noon on October 5, and the first forfeit stage will close at noon on October 19.

Those wishing to supplement after confirmations must pay €46,000, and declarations will close at 9.30am on October 23.

Past winners

The Group 2, which this year is being run for €506,000 – more than double compared to last year – was won by the Andrew Balding-trained Eydon in 2025.

The six-year-old became the first British-trained runner to win the race since Richard Hannon struck with Raymond Tusk in 2018 when winning under PJ McDonald.

Hannon also scored in 2016 with Ventura Storm, while British rider Jack Mitchell steered Sisfahan to victory in 2022.

Six of the last ten winners have been four-year-olds, and if nine-year-old Constitution Hill takes his chance he will be the oldest runner to have featured in that period.

The racecourse

The Ippodromo Snai San Siro is situated just over three miles north-west of Milan and is a stone's throw away from the famous San Siro football stadium, the home ground of both Inter and Milan.

The venue, which opened in July 1920, stages high-class Flat races such as the Gran Premio di Milano and Oaks d'Italia. The Derby Italiano was temporarily moved to San Siro this year and was won by the Andrew Balding-trained Venetian Prince.

Both the Italian 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas are run at the track, and the former was won by Ed Dunlop's Just Call Me Angel in May.

How to get there

If you're a Constitution Hill super fan tempted by a trip to one of Italy's finest cities, there are plenty of ways to get there.

Milan has three airports – Linate (closest and less than 5 miles from city centre), Malpensa (28 miles) and Bergamo (31 miles). All three have direct flights from Britain.

If you fancy something a little more exotic, you could fly to Zurich and take a three-hour-plus train ride through the Alps.
