What a race! Top two in the market for next year's 1,000 Guineas face off in a magnificent Moyglare Stud Stakes

Here we have a Royal Ascot-winning juvenile, unbeaten in four starts, already a Group 1 winner and too classy for the colts in the Prix Morny at Deauville last time, yet she's not even favourite. That tells you all you need to know about the quality of this year's Moyglare Stud Stakes. It's a corker.

The market leader is not Venetian Sun, it's Composing, who is bidding to give Aidan O'Brien a record-extending 11th win in this Group 1. That said, he has been successful in only one of the last five runnings – that was Lake Victoria last year.

Composing has long been the apple of O'Brien's eye. She was beaten on her debut at the Curragh, but since then she has gone from strength to strength with her Racing Post Ratings going from 87 to 100 to 107.

It was her latest demolition job in the Debutante Stakes that was most striking. The official winning distance was two and a half lengths, but she seemed to pull herself up in front and looked to have loads left in the tank.

Wayne Lordan said he "adored" her afterwards and she certainly looks to be a filly right out of the top drawer. She's a daughter of Wootton Bassett and the smart filly Epona Plays and is already a best price of 10-1 for next year's 1,000 Guineas. That price will definitely shorten if she wins this.

The favourite for next year's Guineas is actually Venetian Sun and it is hard to argue with that.

In any normal year she would probably be odds-on for this. She was an emphatic winner of the Albany at Royal Ascot and has backed it up with gutsy triumphs in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket and the Prix Morny, where she fended off the late surge of Coventry Stakes winner Gstaad.

The problem for Venetian Sun is the ground. She has never raced on worse than good and three of her four wins have come with firm in the going description. She's a doubtful starter if it goes soft.

Of those at bigger prices, impressive Galway maiden winner Pivotal Attack could be the one to outrun her odds. She will certainly handle conditions.

'She's in great form but we don't want any more rain' - Burke

Karl Burke is praying the rain stays away for his star filly Venetian Sun.

She's been flawless all season and has been campaigned aggressively, even taking on and beating the boys in the Prix Morny so it was no surprise to hear her trainer wanting to come across and take on the best of Ballydoyle at the Irish Champions Festival.

The problem is the weather. There are heavy showers forecast and if some of those were to hit the Curragh it might put her participation in doubt.

Burke said: "I'm just hoping the rain that's forecast to hit doesn't hit. If as much falls as they're forecasting, there would be a question mark over whether she runs or not. She's in great form, she's travelled over really well and we want to run. We think she'll get the seven furlongs."

What they say

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Beautify, Composing and Precise
Composing won very well the last day. She's a very straightforward, honest filly who doesn't mind making her own running and you have to follow her because she stays. She's a very good filly and we like her. Beautify is a good filly and showed a really good attitude to win the Airlie Stud last time. She seems to be in good form and everyone is happy. Precise is a smart filly, too. She's progressing with every run and we were delighted with her at Goodwood.

Joe Murphy, trainer of Pivotal Attack
It's a big jump in grade to go from a maiden at Galway to a Group 1, but she'll like the little ease in the ground and I'm glad she's in the race. She's a nice filly.
