Want to find some Royal Ascot sprint winners? Here's why you need to pay close attention to Haydock's big races

The Betfred Temple Stakes (3.30) has long been established as a stepping stone to the race now run as the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Since 1990, when the brilliant Dayjur did the double, a total of six horses have won both races. However, there is a strong weighting to the distant past in the sample. By Cassandra Go's success in 2001, five of the six were on the dual honours board, with Elbio (1991), Lochsong (1994) and Bolshoi (1998) sandwiched in between.

Since then, just Profitable in 2016 has scored for fans of a once profitable system, although Bated Breath (2012), and Battaash (2018 and 2019) have finished second and Kyllachy (2002), Fleeting Spirit (2008) and Hot Streak (2014) were third. Airwave (2003) went on to finish second in the Golden Jubilee over a furlong further and Goldream, seventh in the 2015 Temple, left that well behind when winning what was then the King's Stand.
