Not in New York, New York but Chester, Chester — specifically the Ladbrokes Chester Cup, a race that has been run for 201 years and has thrown up 2,001 hard-luck stories.
This is as tough as it gets. Steering half a ton of horseflesh around two and a bit circuits of the tightest track in Britain is hard enough. Doing it amid 15 rivals, holding your position as you are jostled for every inch of ground, makes it four minutes of arduous physical challenge.
