'He has a big chance' - confidence high that Inisherin has what it takes against stars from around the world

The first five in the betting feature two horses trained in France and one each in Britain, Japan and Ireland.

The home team is led by last year's dominant Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin. Two disappointing efforts, when favourite, followed that brilliant course-and-distance success but a wind operation over the winter appeared to have done the trick when he won last month's Duke of York.

Adam Ryan, assistant trainer to his father Kevin, said: "He was a good winner last year in the Commonwealth Cup and it was good to see him back on track in the Duke of York.

"We felt he'd come on for that, so he goes there in great order. He has a big chance. It's a top quality field but we couldn't be happier with him and we wouldn't swap him for anything."

The Hambleton yard also saddles Grand Grey and Ryan added: "He ran very well in the Abernant and it just didn't happen for him over in Ireland. He should be suited by a strongly run contest and hopefully he can run a big race."

Golden Group 1 end to Wathnan's wonderful week?

Wathnan's uncanny knack of delivering on this most royal of stages has continued this year. Two winners from three runners in 2023 was bettered by four last year and they are on the verge of matching that with three already in 2025.

To the Wolferton, Copper Horse and Duke of Cambridge they would dearly love to add a Group 1, and in 3-1 favourite Lazzat and 10-1 chance Flora Of Bermuda they have two strong chances.

Richard Brown, racing adviser to Wathnan Racing, said of the French-based favourite Lazzat: "He's a thoroughly consistent, admirable gelding.

"We've been watching him a long time and we were very taken with his seasonal debut. I think six furlongs on the straight course up the hill will be perfect for him.

"The going is a concern for most horses because it's specialist quick ground, but I personally feel he'll be okay on it. He's one of our big guns for the week and we're all very excited about seeing him run. It's great to have a favourite for a Group 1."

Of the recently purchased Andrew Balding-trained Flora Of Bermuda, who was a neck behind Inisherin at York, he added: "She ran a great race in the Duke of York and was arguably a bit unlucky. If the gaps had opened a bit earlier, she might have got up. Andrew Balding has been very happy with her since and with a bit of luck she can run a big race. She's very consistent."

Tom Segal is in stunning form after 22-1, 10-1 and 7-1 winners on Friday - he has five strong fancies for the last day of Royal Ascot

What they say

Mick Appleby, trainer of Annaf
He's in great form. We're putting cheekpieces on to hopefully sharpen him up a little bit, but he goes there with a good chance.

Karl Burke, trainer of Elite Status
He's in great order and he should step up on what he did at York. He needs to run to his best and it's a tough race, but the ground and track should suit him.

Charlie Hills, trainer of Iberian
He missed the break very badly at the Curragh last time and the race was gone from that moment. The form of his Doncaster run looks pretty good but the ground's very quick, which is a little concern. I'm happy with the way he's going.

Clive Cox, trainer of James's Delight and Jasour
It was a very pleasing success by James's Delight in the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh and he's in excellent form. I just hope the ground isn't too fast for him. It's a quick turn around for Jasour but he's come out of the King Charles III very well and he clearly would have benefited from the extra furlong.

Henry Candy, trainer of Run To Freedom
The horse is in great form and I thought he made a good comeback run at Newmarket in the spring. Hopefully, he'll run well but he's probably not quite good enough to win it.

Ted Voute, racing manager to Prince Faisal, owner of Sajir
We've got a good draw and Oisin [Murphy, rider] on board again from his Newmarket win. He was only beaten just over two lengths by Lazzat the last time they met and these sprinters all seem to take turns in these big races as they need everything to go right. The ground won't be an issue for him and the Prince and Andre [Fabre, trainer] decided we'd take our chance. Either way he'll likely go on to Deauville for the Prix Maurice de Gheest.

Noriyuki Hori, trainer of Satono Reve
After arriving from Hong Kong, Satono Reve had some time to recover before steadily building up his training. He had his final gallop on June 11, a five-furlong piece of work on the July course at Newmarket, ridden by Ryan Moore. Although it’s a different environment from what he’s used to, he’s been coming along well thanks to the warm support of James Horton, his team and everyone involved.

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Storm Boy
We knew he would need his run at the Curragh, we were only getting to know him at that stage, but we think he has come forward a lot since then. He's a fast horse and has shown us plenty of speed at home. We hope you will see a different horse here to the one you saw at the Curragh.

Christopher Head, trainer of Topgear
He's always been full of speed since we got him. As soon as we went sprinting with him he's really dominated his opposition. I can't wait to have the opportunity to run at Royal Ascot, to be able to have a nice runner with the atmosphere – I'm a huge fan of Royal Ascot.

Marco Botti, trainer of Great Generation
She's in good form and is working nicely. She won well at Lingfield in the Chartwell Stakes with a penalty. The drop back to six shouldn't be an issue, she's always shown plenty of speed in her races and loves fast ground. It's an extremely competitive race but she's won three Group 3s, so ideally we can upgrade her page.

David O'Meara, trainer of Nighteyes
The last time she ran, at Haydock behind the King Charles III runner-up Frost At Dawn, she blew the start by a long way. She can be a bit edgy in the stalls, so hopefully behaves herself. She's capable of a big run and we're looking forward to running her.
