Handicapper out to maintain winning streak at Southwell and in-form trainer to note at Wetherby - Sunday's punting pointers

Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .

Southwell: Westmorian bids for four-timer

Grant Tuer has enjoyed plenty of success in three-year-old-plus handicaps at Southwell this season and looks to enhance his 36 per cent strike-rate (5-14) with three runners on the card.

His best chance comes in the 6f handicap (6.15) with the four-timer-seeking Westmorian, who won twice over this course and distance last month before landing the Vase Sprint Handicap at Lingfield on Good Friday. He is up 6lb, but he won with a bit to spare last time and is progressive.

Tuer, who also runs topweight Sofia's Starlight in the same race said: "Westmorian's in great form, he's up another 6lb so he'll need to improve again. We've got a nice draw and the race looks like it'll set up for him nicely.

"Sofia's Starlight has an awkward draw, she likes to go forward which will be tricky. Her all-weather record isn't the greatest but we'll see what happens."

Tuer will be hoping he is already on the board with the reappearing Illusionist, who ended a long losing run when winning at Wetherby 12 months ago. He is off the same mark in the 5f handicap (3.45) and has gone well fresh.

The trainer added: "I've been waiting for soft ground and that hasn't arrived, so we've come here. His all-weather form isn't the best but he's in good nick and he's ready to run."

Wetherby: Niven aims to maintain purple patch

Peter Niven is enjoying a rich vein of form this month and he will aim to add another win to his tally with recent scorer Northbound.

The North Yorkshire trainer has won with two of his last three runners and Northbound makes a quick turnaround following success at Wolverhampton last week.

The seven-year-old scored by an impressive five lengths last time and has gone up 8lb as a result, but could have more to offer under Danny Tudhope down in trip.

He takes on ten runners in the 7f handicap (5.30) including Naval Academy, who is of interest back at a winnable mark, and last-time-out winner Miss Willows.
