Danny Tudhope chases four-timer on Jim Goldie filly at Ayr plus William Haggas attempts to boost Windsor two-year-old strike-rate
Ayr: Journey seeks more joy
Jannas Journey bids to record her third successive win at Ayr in the second division of the 7f handicap (3.00).
The Jim Goldie-trained filly got off the mark on her ninth start when winning over six furlongs at Hamilton last month.
Just four days later she won over this course and distance by two and a quarter lengths, and the four-year-old justified odds-on favouritism by making all when returned to Ayr a week later over a mile.
Jannas Journey started her winning spree off a mark of 47 and attempts to complete a four-timer off 62. Danny Tudhope is three from three on her and is booked to ride again.
Goldie said: “It'll take a good one to beat her. She's in good form and likes the track, so there's lots to like. She won over a mile last time but I don't think she'll mind the drop back to seven furlongs. She's just come to herself this season and kept improving."
Ayr stat: Tristan Davidson bids to improve 50 per cent record
The trainer has won with two of his four runners (50 per cent) in three-year-old-plus classified or conditions races here over the last five seasons and saddles Dandy Lichious (2.00).
Ballinrobe: King out to rule
Daniel King has a £42.57 profit from a £1 level stake from his rides at the track and has three mounts on the card.
King, who has nine winners from 47 rides here, will first try to work his magic on the 15-race maiden Tea It Is in the 2m1f handicap hurdle (6.55). The Denis Hogan-trained eight-year-old finished third of 17 under King at Cork a week ago.
King’s mount in the 3m2f handicap hurdle (7.25), The Little Yank, is one of just two course winners in a field of 13. However, the John Ryan-trained ten-year-old was a well-beaten favourite with King at Kilbeggan on Saturday evening.
King teams up again with Hogan in the 2m7f handicap hurdle (8.25), riding Justmadeit, who bids to get off the mark at the 11th attempt under rules. The six-year-old finished fourth, ridden by King, at Kilbeggan last month.
Kempton: Popeye strong to the finish?
Hugo Palmer has won with three of his six runners in three-year-old handicaps at the track this year and saddles Popeye Doyle in the mile handicap (3.15).
The son of Goken did not shine in his first five starts for the trainer, but tackling a maiden handicap did the trick at Wolverhampton last month, when he was a comfortable three-length winner in first-time cheekpieces under Cieren Fallon, who keeps the ride.
Windsor: Will Jax edge it this time?
Jax Edge failed by a neck to justify favouritism here a fortnight ago and attempts to go one better in the 6f fillies’ handicap (7.40).
The Christopher Mason-trained five-year-old has finished runner-up on all three starts since returning to action in June.
She ended last year on a high, winning back-to-back races at Wolverhampton, but is off a career-high mark and has to concede weight to all nine rivals. Gina Mangan is back in the saddle and knows the mare well, having partnered her in 23 of her 28 starts.
Mason said: "It's just been one of those with her this season. She's been in good order and we're back to six furlongs. If she runs anywhere like she has all season, then she should go close.
"We were unlucky last time. It was an apprentice race and in hindsight we probably went a little too soon and got nabbed. Gina is back on board and hopefully she can go one better."
Windsor stat: William Haggas bids to boost juvenile strike-rate
The trainer has five winners from 18 runners (28 per cent strike-rate) in two-year-old races here, excluding nurseries, over the last five seasons. Gwen John (6.10) bids to make it six.
