Catch me if you can: will blazing Beauzon make it eight straight wins with another front-running show at Wolverhampton tonight?

You may have thought Aisling Oscar stood alone after he landed his eighth consecutive race at Southwell in February, but he could be joined on Monday when Beauzon goes in search of his own eighth straight win.

The Ian Williams-trained seven-year-old will bid to achieve the feat in the 6f handicap (7.30) at Wolverhampton after running up a rare sequence over the sprinting trip, with two wins in classified company and five handicap successes shooting him 20lb up the ratings since his first triumph on January 12.

Of those seven wins, two came at Lingfield and five at Wolverhampton, where he won under Charlie Bishop on Friday. The jockey has been aboard for four of the seven wins, including the last two, and rides again in the eight-timer bid.

His latest success came over this course and distance when he bravely made all to hold off Insuspense and score by half a length. He will carry a 4lb penalty for that win on Monday.

"Things are stacking up against him as he's up in grade with a four pound penalty but he's kept surprising us," said Williams. "He seems in very good form, he's fresh and well and we remain hopeful.

"The handicapper has had his say and he'll have to produce one of the best races of his life. There's a little bit more of a pace angle on than in a couple of his recent races, but Charlie knows him well and we'll manage the situation accordingly."

Beauzon was with David O'Meara before he moved to Williams' Worcestershire base in September 2023, and has won 17 of his 76 starts and more than £93,000 in prize-money. He is owned by the Beaunus Hunters.

A fiery front-runner who is often taken down to the start early, the seven-year-old reached a peak rating of 81 as a three-year-old with O'Meara. But he has enjoyed a new lease of life this year and runs off an official mark of 70 on Monday.

Williams said: "He's a gentleman. He's straightforward and a little bit buzzy and spends more time walking his box than I do on the eve of an important occasion.

"Chloe [Baron], who rides him, said he was lovely and fresh yesterday and my assistant Angus [Adams] has found him another race he's capable of running well in. It would be a huge achievement for the team."

Beauzon will face some consistent opponents in his bid to extend his winning spree, including Water Of Leith and Twilight Madness, but he is the sole last-time-out winner in the field and will break from the advantageous inside stall.

He comes from a decent family as his dam Pepper Lane won the Great St Wilfrid in 2011. Of his five siblings to race, three won for O'Meara.

Tipster verdict

The presence of Digital, who usually had the speed to dictate over 5f round Newcastle this winter, and Twilight Madness, who made all for two wins in December, doesn't look optimal for Beauzon, whose seven wins this year have all come from the front. It's possible that this will be set up for Water Of Leith or Silky Robin, but aside from tactics an eight-timer is very much on the cards.
