Can Royal Ascot runner-up Awaken pick up deserved Group win in rescheduled Dick Poole?

Venetian Sun has been the star juvenile filly in Britain this year and Awaken, who followed her home at odds of 66-1 in the Albany at Royal Ascot, bids to give her form another boost in this Group 3.

George Boughey's filly started at the other end of the odds spectrum on her next outing and duly won at 1-12, but even that form is arguably better than it looks as wins have come from the second and third (twice) since.

The big question mark is really testing ground, but that is the same for all of her rivals.

Flowerhead did win on good to soft early in the season, but in a poor maiden and her Queen Mary second on good to firm is clearly her best run. She didn't seem to quite get home over 6f at Ascot next time, though, and may not want an extreme test at the trip even if her form is on a par with the favourite's.

Super Sprint winner Anthelia has been a star for connections, although you'd be disappointed if she were good enough to win a Group 3, and the unexposed pair of Golden Palace and Planet Seeker are more interesting — albeit with plenty to find on the book.

Golden Palace made it 2-2 in commanding fashion at York in July, albeit from a bunch of rivals who have failed to advertise the form since. She is interesting on pedigree, though, being a Palace Pier half-sister to a Group 2-winning sprinter.

Palace Pier has already sired a Lowther winner in his first season, while A Bit Of Spirit won the Solario for him on soft ground at Sandown.

The form of Planet Seeker's Goodwood win has been largely untested as she ran three weeks ago, but she's out of Stewards' Cup winner Dancing Star and a half-sister to Storm Star, who has rocketed up the handicap on the all-weather for Andrew Balding this season.

What they say

Rod Millman, trainer of Anthelia
She was a bit disappointing at York. She lost her way at halfway, but ran on really well towards the end, so we've got no worries about the distance. It's a competitive race, but she seems to be in good form and deserves a crack at Group company.

Harry Herbert, racing manager to Highclere Thoroughbreds, owners of Awaken
She wants stepping up to seven furlongs soon, but she's not short of speed, so a stiff six furlongs on this ground will be fine. The form of her Royal Ascot run is outstanding. She's a beautifully scopey filly who we hope can be even better next year.

Stuart Williams, trainer of Azleet
She's been progressing lovely. She won her nursery at Newmarket well, and the form of that has worked out quite well. She's improving and hasn't done anything wrong, so we thought we'd roll the dice to pick up some black type.

Charlie Clover, trainer of Flowerhead
We're a little concerned about the rain, as it's already soft and there could be more to come. We'll keep an eye on it, but she's in good order.

Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer of Reimagined
She loves the soft ground. That will be great for her and I think she'll be there or thereabouts.
