A four-time Group 1 winner warms up for overseas assignment - three things to note as the ITV cameras travel to Southwell on Friday

The opening day of the Coral Gold Cup meeting dominates the ITV4 coverage, but it will also feature two races from Southwell including a multiple Group 1 winner. Here's why you shouldn't miss the action from the all-weather track.

Proven class v unexposed rival

A four-time Group 1 winner is in action on the all-weather as Dubai Honour warms up for another overseas trip in the Listed Midnite Churchill Stakes (2.40).

He was runner-up to The Foxes in this contest last year before both of those rivals travelled to Hong Kong, and this time he has another tough opponent in Shader

Juddmonte's four-year-old has won three of his five starts, including a nine-length success over West Wind Blows at Kempton last time, and is expected to improve.

“Shader has come out of Kempton very well," said the owner's racing manager Barry Mahon. "He's a fresh horse who ought to have come on for that run and we're looking forward to seeing him out again.

"Dubai Honour is a very good horse, a multiple Group 1 winner who has campaigned all over the world. Shader will probably have to improve again to beat him, even in receipt of weight, and it'll be a good guide to where our horse is at."

Competitive sprint with a three-year-old to note

Smart sprinters will go head to head in the Listed Midnite Golden Rose Stakes (3.15) and it is interesting Charlie Johnston has chosen to pitch three-year-old Dash Dizzy against his elders.

The Wootton Bassett colt is one of three from his generation and has some smart form, including when third to Shadow Of Light and Whistlejacket in last year's Middle Park Stakes.

He has run only once since when finishing eighth in the Commonwealth Cup Trial at Ascot in April and could represent something of a surprise package if ready to go on his return to action.

Haggas handicapper can still do better

If William Haggas is out of luck with Dubai Honour, perhaps Dramatic Star can prove an able deputy in the 1m4f handicap (6.15).

The decent handicapper found only his stablemate The Reverend too strong in the Old Borough Cup at Haydock in September and he is only 3lb higher now after two quieter runs.

He is proven on the all-weather having scooped a decent event at Newcastle last October and remains unexposed in this sort of company.
