If variety is the spice of life, the action served up on Saturday is the equivalent of an Indian banquet, with Classic trials to big-field handicaps over both codes to satisfy every palate.

Haydock's unique card featuring Flat and jump races can be viewed as the perfect mixed starter, with Lingfield's key prep races for Epsom the appetising main course and the hearty side dish of Ascot's Victoria Cup for punters to get stuck into.

The portion sizes are a bit small in places at Lingfield, with just three runners for the William Hill Oaks Trial (1.15), but there is a bigger helping with a field of seven in the William Hill Lingfield Derby Trial (3.00).
