William Buick goes top in title race as he continues fine run of form
William Buick continued his sensational run of form to land a double as he swept to the top of the Flat jockeys' championship in Britain.
Coming off a treble at Leicester on Saturday evening, Buick wasted no time in adding another win to his tally with Capla Berry in the 7f handicap.
He then battled to the line to snatch the 1m handicap by a head on Siam Fox, who was himself landing back-to-back wins for the yard of Richard Hannon.
Hannon said: "He's always been a horse that we've liked very much and now he's coming good.
"He looked very gutsy there and might get a bit further so it was very pleasing, especially as he was up 9lb from his last win. He's going the right way, that's for sure."
It was Buick's first ride on the three-year-old, who won readily at Nottingham two weeks ago with usual partner Silvestre de Sousa.
Success with Siam Fox was Buick's 16th winner this month, and he will be hoping his red-hot form will continue at Royal Ascot.
Buick's Ascot rides include St James's Palace Stakes hopeful Highland Avenue for Godolphin and unbeaten French filly Suesa in the Commonwealth Cup.
Jawwaal back in business
Jawwaal returned to winning ways with a close-fought victory in the feature 5f handicap for Callum Rodriguez and Michael Dods.
The six-year-old saw off veteran Caspian Prince by a short head to claim his first win since Ascot last July, and connections will no doubt be considering that same handicap once again.
