'We might find Trincomalee a Pertemps qualifier next' - Lucy Wadham aims high

Lucy Wadham: trainer of Trincomalee, who could be aimed at Cheltenham

Lucy Wadham has Cheltenham on the radar for Trincomalee after he won the 2m7½f handicap hurdle despite making life tricky for himself with ropey jumps at the final two hurdles.

The eight-year-old overcame those wobbles with Bryony Frost driving him out to overhaul Thunderstruck going away, a first win for the rider since June.

Wadham will now look to a Pertemps qualifier for Trincomalee, who carried on his good form from the end of last season on his return to action.

Wadham said: "He didn't help himself by missing the last two hurdles, but Bryony did a great job to pick him up and I was thrilled with the way he stuck his head out.

"He's only our second runner and we were wondering where we were on the fitness font, so I'm pleased all round.

"We might find a qualifier for the Pertemps for him next. He's run well at Cheltenham before and with the rating he's on we'd be in the area to get into the race."

McCain on fire

Donald McCain's outstanding form shows no signs of abating after Geromino struck in the 2m novice hurdle to continue the trainer's 50 per cent strike-rate this month.

McCain has never had more October winners than the ten he has accumulated from only 20 runners so far this month, and the victory was Brian Hughes's 70th of the season on his only ride of the day.

Hat-trick heroes

The Fergal O'Brien-trained No No Maestro and Orchard Grove, for trainer Kerry Lee, both continued their fine runs as they racked up hat-tricks in the 3m handicap chase and 2m handicap hurdle respectively.
