Seven up for track legend Tonto's Spirit after Peter Beaumont Memorial victory

Trainer Dianne Sayer hailed Tonto's Spirit a Cartmel legend after her stable star secured a record-equalling seventh success at the track in the Peter Beaumont Memorial Handicap Chase.

The nine-year-old joined Soul Magic as the most successful horse at Cartmel after making all for a three-length success under Conor O'Farrell for an emotional success in the feature race named after the popular Yorkshire trainer, who died in March 2020.

"We're absolutely delighted, he knows where he is and is brought alive when he comes here. It's such a poignant race to win," Sayer said.

"Peter was such a wonderful person and I was lucky enough to know him and enjoy his company, he never missed you. It was great to have a runner in the race, let alone win it."

Sayer confirmed Tonto's Spirit will return to the track next year and is determined for her star to become the outright record holder. She added: "He's a yard legend because he started here with my late brother Ken when nobody wanted him. We love this horse to bits, it's quite moving and Tonto and Ken's memories are living on."

Final hurrah for Moffatt and Jones

Cartmel's most successful trainer Jimmy Moffatt and Charlotte Jones have enjoyed a fine season at the track and they were in the winner's enclosure again at the final meeting of the year.

Native Fighter took the 3m1½f handicap hurdle before Dressedforsuccess, who nearly threw away his chance by idling when well clear, battled to a dramatic victory in the 3m1½f handicap chase.
