Jockey Marc Goldstein was rewarded for months of hard work to get back from a career-threatening injury when striking on Bard Of Brittany in the 2m3½f handicap hurdle.

Goldstein fractured his pelvis in three places in a schooling accident in September and gained his first winner since returning on the Sheena West-trained seven-year-old.

"It was only my third ride back and it feels very nice," said Goldstein, 35. "I suffered a rotational fall where I fell straight on the floor and the horse landed on my pelvis. I fractured it in three places and have two bolts in it now.

"If it wasn't for all the team at Oaksey House, I wouldn't be here today. I was looking forward to the start of the season and couldn't believe it when it happened, but I've been in this situation before.

"When I was getting punished at Oaksey House on the bike, I was thinking about this horse."

Bard Of Brittany cruised home by nine and a half lengths to provide West with her first winner for 132 days and 31 runners.

Ravenhill back on right road

Ravenhill Road, a faller on two of his previous three starts, put his best foot forward to provide trainer Sue Smith with a welcome success in the 2m3f handicap chase.

Under an attacking ride by Ryan Mania, the Phil and Julie Martin-owned ten-year-old got back on track in pretty emphatic fashion, producing a flying leap at the last to score by seven and a half lengths.

Smith, who was returning to winning ways after a month without a victory during what has been a tough season, said: "He's got a touch of class and we've been waiting for this ground to come. He's got his funny little ways and likes to have his own way, but he's settled with us at home and is a very talented horse.

"We might look at Aintree and, depending what trip we decide on, he could have a go over the National fences in the Topham."

Coleman celebrates Fantastic success

Fantastic Lady suffered her own jumping woes when falling at the last while leading at Warwick last month, but she gained compensation in the 2m3½f mares' novice hurdle.

Trained by Nicky Henderson for Evan-Robert Hanbury, the 5-6 favourite kept on well to get the better of stablemate Docte Dina under Aidan Coleman.

The jockey, winning on his only ride of the day, said: "She travelled and jumped brilliantly. She was unlucky to tip up last time. She was the one to beat and a very straightforward ride. She has plenty of scope and should keep progressing."

Double strike for Todd

Charlie Todd had a day to remember after reducing his claim to 3lb and finishing the card with a double.

Todd gained the 40th success of his career on One More Fleurie and also won the closing race for conditional jockeys on Psychedelic Rock. Both winners came for his boss Ian Williams.
