'There's a promising future for him' - big aims for stunning Roaring Lion colt

Lion Of War teed himself up for a crack at the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket's July Festival next month following a breathtaking win in the 7f novice stakes.

Jockey Cieren Fallon was able to put ten lengths between the son of Roaring Lion and the rest of the field in the manner of a smart prospect.

Fallon said: "It's the easiest winner I'll have all year, he's done everything you wanted him to do. He's ready for a step up in grade.

"You know when you're sat on a good horse; I was sat on one today. When you ask them to pick up they do it instantly, every good horse has speed which he does and he's going to stay further. There's a promising future for this lad."

Lion Of War already appears excellent value for the Qatar Racing team, having been purchased for just 7,000gns at Tattersalls last October.

Joint-trainer Charlie Johnston pointed at Newmarket next for Lion Of War, and added: "I was hoping he'd do that. We could've jumped in class after Leicester but I felt mentally he's still quite immature and he was quite colty, so we wanted another day at school before we jumped up. I think he's told us he's ready for it."

Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott enjoyed a double in the opening two races. Thundering took the 1m4½f handicap before Revision showed a great attitude to justify odds-on favouritism in the 6f novice stakes.
