'That wasn't him at his best' - more to come from Milton Harris's Twinjets

Wednesday: Leicester

The Milton Harris-trained Twinjets earned a first hurdling success with a hard-fought victory in the 1m7½f maiden hurdle, and was subsequently shortened to 40-1 from 50-1 for this year’s Supreme Novices’ at Cheltenham.

In the hands of Harry Cobden, the five-year-old took time to get going before being switched right two from home. With the rail to guide him, he kept on well before snatching victory from Gardener by a length and a quarter.

Harris, however, was not getting carried away. Speaking from Thailand, where he is recovering from a recent illness, he said: “You’re never disappointed when you win but that wasn’t him at his best. Without wishing to decry the second and third horses, we still haven’t seen him show what he can do.”

He added: “He’s a good horse and I’d be pretty surprised if he wasn’t a Graded horse, but I was actually disappointed with that performance.”

Bold debut

Making his debut for Nicky Henderson, Bold Endeavour stormed to a first chasing success under a fine front-running ride from Nico de Boinville.

The six-year-old showed plenty of promise over hurdles when with Laura Morgan, but had failed to live up to his considerable potential, being pulled up on his last two starts, including in the Grade 1 Sefton Novices' Hurdle at Aintree.

He made all here, jumping well and showing a devastating turn of foot when quickening away from Ashington in the straight to win by ten lengths.

Jack the lad

Fergal O’Brien remains hot on the heels of last season’s record tally of 128 winners as he bagged his 98th victory of the campaign with Great Heart’jac. On his chasing debut, the seven-year-old shed his maiden at the 12th attempt in the 2m novice handicap chase.
